Today I’m feeling kind of sad, because of the things I cannot change, and because I am worried about my family, because my homeland Kenya has been torn apart by violence and ethnic hatred, and I am so far from home, and there is nothing I can do about any of these things, except to pray, and hope.
So I’ve decided to share a random selection of images drawn from photos I took that represent different things from the last year that made me smile, that are representative of the basics in life, of simplicity and beauty.
I’m sorry to hear that your working papers didn’t through 🙁 It would have been nice to have started now rather than in March.
I also hope your family is okay. It was scary to read the news about Kenya daily while I was in Uganda… things are not going well there. I was in Nairobi for a night and all seemed calm, but I was also staying in Westlands, which I get the impression is a pretty well to do area that rarely has problems. I’ll give a call over there soon.
mike.
Mike, thanks. I’m a bit bummed out about it, but I’ll deal.
I’ve talked to my mom several times, and so far they’re doing well, thanks for asking. It’s definitely a worrisome situation, and I can only hope things calm down soon. You’re right about Westlands, it’s a relatively affluent area, and pretty chill. The trouble areas are mostly in the less affluent areas and of course out in the rural areas where the tribal tensions are a lot more palpable and things are more volatile.
Hope all is well, I’m looking forward to seeing you in the Summer!
