You will notice that the blog looks a little different… okay, well, a lot different. I’ve been wanting to make some changes for a while now but have been procrastinating because I was afraid I would end up having a problem, and I was also just feeling lazy.

Anyway, after making some updates a few days ago, I apparently broke the blog, and people using certain versions of Internet Explorer could not load the website correctly. Since I use Firefox, I was blissfully ignorant and unaware of the problem but was wondering why my visitor stats had dropped. Once I found out what was happening I decided that was the signal I needed that it was time to make a change.

So here we are. Mary’s Pad is now running on WordPress, migrated successfully from b2evolution, thanks to cmb. And a big thanks to Kaki for giving me the heads up on my broken blog.

I am still working on the blog, fixing things and trying to figure out what theme to use, so don’t be surprised if you see changes over the next few days. Let me know what you think of the new look, and if anything’s broken, let me know!!

I had my first interview yesterday, and I didn’t even realize it was going to be an interview!!

So the other day on the ICU I ran into the Manager and expressed to her that I am very interested in working on the Unit after I graduate. She told me she had absolutely NO openings and didn’t think she was going to hire anyone this time around because the Unit is currently overstaffed. She mentioned that she would be happy to talk with me anyway to tell me more about the Unit and discuss my interest. Just like that she said “Want to come in tomorrow before your clinical starts and we can have a short chat?” Ofcourse.

Before leaving the house yesterday I figured I’d print out a copy of my resume and take it with me, figuring she wouldn’t be interested in it anyway since she was pretty sure she wasn’t hiring, and we had agreed we were just going to “chat”. Guess what the first thing she asked me was? “You didn’t happen to bring a resume, did you?” From there, the “chat” evolved into a full blown 1-hour interview! It was awesome! She still doesn’t think she’s hiring anyone, but she has my resume, we had a good interview, and I am keeping my fingers (and toes, knees, etc.) crossed hoping that a position opens up by the time I’m ready to start.

The moral of the story, besides filling you in on the happenings of my oh so fascinating life? Always be prepared, you never know when someone will ask… “You didn’t happen to bring your resume, did you?”

When you stop by, and see a post that falls under the category of Nursing, or that’s talking about medical/nursing stuff, don’t walk on by! Stop, and read it, because there’s no reason not to, and sometimes there’s every reason to.

I realized that the Nursing Category is really starting to grow, and that I am blogging more and more about nursing stuff. Today, as a matter of fact, I was going to write something nursing-related, but then I decided I needed more information. I begun wondering if I shouldn’t start a separate blog exclusively about nursing stuff, just like I have one about programming and coding stuff. I still might, if it all starts getting so technical that I feel it warrants its own space, but because nursing is such a big part of my life, there will be posts on here that relate to nursing.

So why should you read them if you have no interest in nursing? Because it’s important stuff. It may not be affecting you right now, but it could.

Knowledge is the first step in empowerment. When you know, you are in a better place to make decisions, to think clearly, to not get overwhelmed. Too many times I see people make decisions, bad decisions, imprudent decisions, hasty decisions, ill-advised decisions, because they don’t know.

It may be you, or your parent, or your sibling, or your spouse… maybe not right now, but sometime int the future. Start equipping yourself.

My true learning is just about to begin, in a few weeks, after I graduate. And as I learn, I will share what I know, either here on this blog, or on other places with a link here. So don’t skip those posts, because you do need to know.

Besides, I think knowing stuff is sexy, don’t you?
