We’re growing stuff!!

June 5th, 2007 · 2 Comments

This summer we’re doing it again – gardening. Last summer we did really well with our little back patio garden (in pots). We planted tomatoes, sage, cucumbers, and peppers… lots and lots of peppers, sweet ones and hot ones. With the exception of the tomatoes, everything else did exceptionally well. We had only one harvest of tomatoes and then the squirrels attacked. But the cucumbers were awesome, and we had a lot to share, as well as hot peppers, and sage. We still have some dried sage from back then.

Well, this summer we are growing stuff in the pots in our back patio again, but we also got three small plots at the community garden about seven blocks from our house. We are sharing these with Mike (our new roommate for the Summer), and they’re doing really well too. Well, in the back we have tomatoes, sweet peppers, sage, basil, cucumber, and dill. In the community garden plots we have tomatoes, chives, beans, radishes, beets, etc. Mary has a real green thumb, and it looks like Mike does too. He jumped in with no hesitation, sleeves rolled up, ready to go, on his second day living with us. It’s all pretty awesome.

Here is one of the pictures of the plots (the middle plot) at the community garden taken on June 2nd.

There are a few more here, with notes that show what’s planted where, and I will be adding to them as the season proceeds. I will also add pictures of the stuff in our back patio.

We’ll save you some tomatoes and peppers and basil, and…

We just ate our first radish from the community plot. Sweet!
