If you are looking for beautiful handcrafted furniture for your home, I have just the place for you. It’s called Villa and Hut, and they are located at 1105 Frankford Ave in Philadelphia, PA.
We were driving on Frankford when we saw the most amazing looking outdoor furniture on display. So we stopped for a look-see, and discovered what I believe will quickly become one of the most popular furniture stores in the city. Villa and Hut has its home in Australia, and this location in Fishtown is actually their very first US store! They carry handcrafted indoor and outdoor furniture, made both from re-claimed timber and farmed wood. From their website:
Timber Source
Villa & Hut hand select their timber from two primary sources:
Re-claimed Timber: Some of Villa & Hut’s favourite furniture pieces have had past lives as doors, beams, bridges and buildings that maybe up to 100 years old. We have been able to create these timber pieces into a range of original, stylish and individually handcrafted furniture. Look for where an old door handle and bolt insert used to be!
Timber Plantations: Timber plantations have been established in several countries around the globe, specifically for the wholesale timber market.
They create these timber plantations around the world in an effort to preserve rain forest timber while still producing good furniture. The types of wood they use are Mahogany, Teak, and Nyatoh.
When we first started walking around I was afraid to look at the price tags because I was sure it would be very expensive, but I found the prices to be surprisingly reasonable. You can find Villa and Hut at 1105 Frankford St., Philadelphia, PA 19125. Their US website, which as of this writing is still under construction, is http://www.villaandhut-usa.com/.
The Australian website (http://www.villaandhut.com) is where you can see all the good stuff they have, but do give them a visit if you’re in Philly, and have a minute to spare, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re not, you can call their store, the number is on the US website, to see if they deliver.
