We’re still having stuff done to the house, and yours truly is exhausted. Generally I can get by without much sleep, but if you combine working an average of four 12 hour night shifts a week dealing with the madness of the ER with spending my daytime hours being serenaded by hammers pounding and saws buzzing, it’s enough to make me want to cry.

I am pretty tired and looking forward to when all the work gets done and I can get back home after work and hide in my quiet cave. I mean, the contractor dudes are awesome and I like them a lot, but it gets pretty LOUD.
OK, enough whining. Here’s an update so far:
- New stairs that don’t squeak
- Basically finished basement
- New energy efficient washer and dryer installed and running
- Front brick wall power-washed and wiring cleaned up
- Back wall has new stucco plus a coat of paint
- House repainted - living room and third floor are a nice orange color
- New hardwood floors
- Railing for the front steps
- New window in the bathroom
I’ve probably left out some stuff given my brain is mush. It looks awesome. Photos to follow once all the work is done.
In the process we learned some interesting stuff:
- There used to be a window in the bathroom, but for some reason it was bricked up. Interestingly enough, it was in the exact same spot where we now have the new one.
- There used be central air and heat, but for some reason someone took it out.
- There used to be an alleyway on the side of the house, but it was closed up to make the living room larger. Unfortunately no proper foundation was put down in the space between the ground and the floor, so we had to cut a hole in the existing floor to reinforce that part of the room before laying the new floor.
Meanwhile… yaaaaaawn!

Aunt Sam and I figured out that you got the stairs –The realization is that since I will be sleeping in the basement (so my snoring won’t wake you), you wanted squeakless stairs so that you could also sleep through my trips to the bathroom!!
I cannot wait to see it!! Probably not for a few months but I will get down (or is it up?) to see you as soon as I can!! If we time it right, maybe kaki and the boys (maybe even Rick) can come up (or is it down?) at the same time.
Love ya

Spot on, spot on! And don’t forget the sturdy railings we put on the stairs to accommodate your advancing age as you make said trips to the bathroom
Can’t wait till you all come over and see it all!
Hope all is well on your end. We’re really hoping we can make the Lantern Light Tour this year.
