We got back from the garden about an hour ago. Today we harvested, and ate, our first radish! It tasted so good!

The garden is doing great, and the plants look amazing.

We weeded and mulched, but the picture above was taken by Mike earlier in the afternoon, before the weeding and mulching. We met two new people today while there. One was a woman whose memorable comment to us was that we aren’t “true gardeners” because we used seedlings for the tomatoes… that was kind of funny. She did have some gripes about the garden, but we basically smiled at her and refused to be engaged in a futile argument with her… too much mulching to do. The second person we met was an older gentleman who planted and maintains the rose bushes in the front part of the garden. He gave us a nice history of the garden and neighborhood, and he was really interesting to talk to, even though he did start off by telling Mike to stop “wasting” the water. Mary decided to walk over and talk to him after he had yelled at Mike, because she’s social that way, and we ended up showing off our new radish and having a great conversation with him.
