On the NCLEX and Pet Turtles

Tomorrow is the big day - I take my NCLEX exam at 8:00am! Just to reiterate, this is the exam that determines my competency to practice my trade, although I’m still not sure how. I spent the weekend doing practice questions on and off, and gritting my teeth every time someone said to me “Don’t worry, you’ll do fine.” This morning Mary and I did a dry run to the testing venue to see what the morning traffic looks like and to make sure we knew where we’re going tomorrow.

And in other news, this weekend Mary bought a turtle! Yes, we now have a resident turtle in our living room. He is of the breed known as “painted turtles”, very beautiful to look at. We have him in a 20 gallon tank in the living room, and it’s actually kind of fun watching him swim around and explore in the tank. I didn’t have time to take any pictures of him, but he looks exactly like this:

He and I had a bit of a bumpy start to our relationship. Yesterday when Mary was setting up the tank and I was holding him in my palm, he peeked out and scratched me (he has looooong nails). I wasn’t expecting that so I dropped him on the floor. Thank God turtles have hard shells, and from watching him swim around he doesn’t seem to have suffered any ill effects. I still haven’t quite recovered from it all yet… :)

We’re still trying to figure out what to call him, and it’s great to have a pet that Mary’s not allergic to.
