I mentioned yesterday that we were working on the bathroom all weekend, and that we’d finally bought a nice grill (actually, it begged us to take it home and we didn’t have the heart to say no). Anyway, I meant to post some pictures last night but I got a little carried away pouring myself a certain drink that shall remain unnamed and my ability to do anything that required any amount of hand-eye coordination was significantly compromised.
Anyway, here are some photos:
This is the bathroom before we started working on it:

Another pic before we started working on it showing the tub and the floor:

OK, so we weren’t too excited about the white walls, for starters. They made the bathroom feel cold and impersonal. The floor trim and mold work was also never completed, so we did that and repaired a lot of other cosmetic stuff. We were also not too jazzed about the floor because whoever did the tiling before we bought the house painted the ceramic tile but didn’t seal it, so it scuffed rather fast, and looked unpleasant. It was next to impossible to get it looking nice and clean. So we decided, after much debate, to first try repainting it the right way, and hope that it holds up so that we don’t have to retile it. We also obviously painted the walls.
These are pics I took after we finished working on the bathroom:

I think Sean likes the new colors!

After all the hard work, we invited a couple of friends over, sat out back, threw some food on the grill, got a nice fire going, and just hang out!
Here’s the new grrrrill! It’s not super clear because I took the pic at night:

Look at that fire!

Mary and Mary,
The bathroom looks great! I can’t believe how good the tile floor looks. What kind of paint do you use for floors?

Thanks! I love the results. The paint is an epoxy-based floor paint that we got at Home Depot. We had them mix in slip resistant stuff into it that comes in a packet, I forget what it’s called, but it basically gives it a sort of gritty feel that’s really nice. Before painting it though we first primed it with two coats of Gripper priming paint, and then two coats of the floor paint.
If that doesn’t hold then nothing will! We hope it does though. We’d really prefer avoiding the whole retiling process!

The bathroom looks great! And why didn’t you have that bad-ass fire pit out when I was around this summer? I’ll definitely have to make my way over there next year when I move back to Philly!

Mike,
Thanks. It’s amazing what repainting a room can do for the aesthetics, isn’t it? The fire pit is great, we just got it at the end of the summer so that we can enjoy a few more nights outside before it gets unbearably cold and snowy, you know how much I hate the cold.
Wait a minute! Did you say you’re moving back to Philly??? Is that a definite?? Yeah! That’s the best news ever! Keep in touch and let us know how things are progressing. You know we’re both super excited that we’ll get to hang out with you again, and maybe we can find a way to do some more gardening together, and of course Ralphie’s just itching to kick your butt at Wii again!!
