…why I haven’t posted in a while, well, it’s because I got my first paycheck on Friday, and that should explain it all!!

It was a great week, I learned a lot. Like I mentioned in the last post it was a bit of a baptism by fire experience to have a code before I had got my feet wet enough, but it was a learning experience. Adjusting to actually being an RN versus an SN (Student Nurse) has been interesting on many levels. One of the more comforting things about being an SN was that when I was baffled I could tell the patient “Let me get your nurse.” Now I AM the nurse, and I have to figure it out and ask for help if I need to, but I am now the one responsible.

The other thing that’s required an adjustment is that I can now independently sign documents that I would previously have to have countersigned by my instructor or another RN. But that means that I am now being held fully accountable, and responsible, and I have to be that much more careful about what I do, because I am now practicing under my own license, and can’t say “Well, they told me to do it.”

Besides all that, I have to say I enjoyed the first week, and I’m looking forward to the coming week to see what it brings!! But I do so miss having a Spring Break…
