I spent a lot of time today looking at my ID badge and marveling over the fact that it reads: Registered Nurse, Emergency Dept. I still can’t get over it. Who’d have thought, after all the years I spent being part of and traversing the world of lab rats, physics addicts, and math geeks, that I’d be wearing a badge that read Registered Nurse?
So the week is coming along, still spending most of it sitting and listening. But it’s getting a little more interesting - today we got to play with hot dogs and sausages!! Turns out nursing educators are very resourceful people. Sausages and hot dogs have a “skin”, therefore, sausages and hot dogs can receive intradermal injections. We went to lunch immediately after that session, and I noticed that everyone in our group ordered either salad or pizza!
Even though I call it borientation, and with reason, I’m glad we’re going through it because it creates a nice buffer between school and practice.
Part of me can’t wait to get started on the floor, part of me is scared. Part of me still can’t believe it’s real. Life is strange indeed! But hey, if the scrubs fit…
